1980 - 2018

Science/Technological Innovation Management Consultant and Educator: Stargate Consultants Limited, Nanaimo, B.C. Responsible for policy/program studies in the areas of technological innovation or entrepreneurship, technology transfer, R&D management audits, and development and presentation of R&D management workshops to government and industry scientists and engineers. Clients include Industry Canada, National Research Council, Environment Canada, National Defence, Science Council of Canada, Natural Resources Canada, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the Auditor General of Canada and the Governments of B.C. and Ontario, Dow AgroSciences, LLC (U.S.), the Industrial Research Institute (U.S.), the University of P.E.I., Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Canadian Biotechnology Advisory Committee, Canada Centre for Management Development, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Grand Carson Communication (Shanghai), and Innolabs Group (Shanghai).

1974 - 1980

Program Manager: Industry Canada, Ottawa. In charge of a university grant program that funded studies in the areas of technological innovation and technical entrepreneurship, or its management. Responsible for determining research topics, evaluating and selecting research proposals, monitoring the research teams, and evaluating the final reports, prior to publication and distribution.

Program Advisor, Industry Canada, designed Canada's Industrial Innovation Centre Program, that resulted in the establishment of innovation centres at Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal and at the University of Waterloo.

1973 - 1974

Personnel Officer; Ministry of State for Science and Technology, Ottawa. Responsible for the recruitment, interviewing and hiring of science policy advisors. Also responsible for writing the job descriptions for all of the science policy advisors in the Ministry.

Science Policy Advisor; Ministry of State for Science and Technology, Ottawa. Responsible for providing advice and recommendations designed to improve the quality of management of science and technology in Canada, monitoring the work of research consultants, and developing a network of contacts around the world in the innovation management area.

1970 - 1972

Scientific Personnel Staffing Officer; Defence Research Board of Canada, Ottawa. Conducted recruiting activities, and conducted internal R&D management studies. Responsible for the summer student recruitment program which involved conducting employment interviews at various universities across Canada and making recommendations on who to hire for specific positions. Also responsible for monitoring the employment of the students to ensure that they were suitably tasked.

1969 - 1971

In charge of the site's public relations office which involved preparing public relations material on the peaceful uses of atomic energy, giving public presentations, and giving tours of the facility to visitors.
